Benguela, a vibrant coastal city in western Angola, is famous for its historic railway and large beach. The Praia Da Caotinha offers spectacular views, soft sands, and wonderfully warm water, making it a favourite among families and swimmers. The Benguela Railway, reopened in 2014, provides an interesting and leisurely way to discover the area, with numerous excellent photographic opportunities. An array of intriguing heritage buildings are dotted throughout Benguela. Architecture enthusiasts will enjoy exploring sites such as the Igreja da Nossa Senhora do Populo, one of the oldest churches in the country, and the uber-modern and unique Se Catedral de Nossa Senhora de Fatima. From here, travellers can easily make their way to Lobito as well as the beautiful nature parks further up the coast.
